EFB for the NextGen Operating Environment
The fundamental goals of NextGen are to safely allow more aircraft to fly more closely together on more direct routes, reducing delays, and providing unprecedented benefits for the environment and the economy through more efficient operations. This will be done through a transformation of the United States National Airspace System (NAS) and airport infrastructures, and will rely on a system of space-based navigation, real-time surveillance, and digital communications. A critical component of NextGen success is the provision of relevant, real-time information to the flight crew that allows good and timely decision making to allow for optimal and continuous situational awareness. Electronic Flight Bags (EFB) play an essential role in enabling this transformation.
  • Understand the role EFB will play in the future integrated operating environment
  • Learn why EFB is widely regarded as a critical component in the NextGen vision
  • Understand how EFB will help connect the flight crew to operations in real-time
  • Learn how EFB plays a key role in NextGen transformation, especially retrofit equipage
  • Explore boundaries and potential issues regarding NextGen functionality for the EFB
  • Workshop Leader:
